Burkina Faso has seen more than 20 terrorist attacks in a year

Security Minister Simon Compaoré was in front of the press on Friday, March 24 to discuss the terrorist attacks in the country.

« From 2015 to 2016, Burkina Faso has experienced more than 20 attacks or terrorist attacks against the defense and security forces or civilians that have resulted in more than 70 casualties », he said.

« As of today, more than 70 suspects involved in the terrorist attacks and the jihadist threat have been arrested and justice proceedings are under way », Compaoré said.

In front of the terrorist threat, several operations were organized by the defense and security forces in the east and north of the country.

There are also joint operations such as « Seno » conducted in partnership with the Malian armed forces, the joint Burkina-Togo operation along the border between the two countries.

According to the Minister of Security, terrorist groups that pose a threat to Burkina Faso include Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), Al Mourabitoune, Ansar Eddine, the Macina Liberation Front (FLM), the Islamic State in the great Sahara and Ansarul Islam.
