Centre of Mali : terrorists attack the people’s livelihoods

In Mali, the security situation is still worrying in the center of the country where the inhabitants promise to « no longer stand idle » in front of the violence of the armed groups. In Kouakourou, Djenne circle, hundreds of oxen were abducted and motor pumps destroyed.

After threatening to kidnap the village chief of Kouakourou, terrorists continue to spread terror in the locality. « Yesterday they came to take our plowing oxen which were near the irrigated farms, affirms a former mayor reached on the spot. Around 7 pm, they went back to our farms and burned our motor pumps which allow us to irrigate our plantations.

Today, agriculture is the only economic activity in the village. Traditionally fishermen, the inhabitants of Kouakourou all turn to the farms at this time of year. « For us, the year has failed. It had been days that we had not watered our farms and now the motor pumps are set on fire. It is clear that we are going to suffer », says a local official.
