An attack in the night from yesterday to today, in Abala Filingué (Tillaberi region), has caused several deaths in the ranks of the Nigerien army.
« The fighting lasted until late at night, the population is terrified », said a local official to Sahelien.com.
According to a security source, eight deaths have been reported. « The assailants came in vehicles of the gendarmerie taken in Ayorou. They are currently encircled by the army around Banibangou », the same source added.
Attacks against the defense and security forces are increasingly recurring in this area west of Niger.
On May 11, the Ayorou gendarmerie station, north of Tillaberi, was the target of a terrorist attack. After the exchanges of fire, the attackers took away military equipment.
Two weeks later, two policemen and one civilian were killed in an attack on a police station near Tera.
