The Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA) and the Touareg Imghad and Allied Self-Defense Group (GATIA) clashed again on Tuesday July 11 in the Kidal region.
The resumption of the fighting comes five days after the clashes, still in the same region, between the two signatory movements of the peace agreement. According to CMA spokesman Ilad Ag Mohamed, contacted by Sahelien.com, “there was fighting this morning in the Kidal area as far as Anefis. The fighting has ended and the CMA is in Anefis right now”.
One of the causes of the resumption of hostilities according to the Secretary General of GATIA, Fahad Almahmoud, concerns the return of the Administration planned on July 20.
Does the CMA control Anefis ?
“I cannot confirm that. There was no one in Anefis this morning, that is to say, those who were there went to the front. There is not a big stake in the locality of Anefis”, he told Sahelien.com.
On July 6, the UN Mission in Mali condemned the resumption of fighting between the two movements. If “ceasefire violations persist, they will affect not only the implementation of the Peace Agreement, thus benefiting terrorism, but they will also undermine confidence in the good faith of the signatory movements”, Said Mahamat Saleh Annadif, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General said in a statement.
