The Malian army has accused fighters of the former CMA rebellion of firing Saturday, July 22, on one of its supply vehicles in Léré, in the center of the country.
“They tried to stake the convoy and drag it into a trap”, the army said in a statement, pointing to the Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA), a signatory group of the peace agreement.
According to an army official, “the solar panel, batteries, sleeping arrangements and machine gun loaders” seized by the Malian forces belong a priori to the ex-rebels.
Contacted, a source in the CMA “does not want to speak longer on the subject,” adding that the fighters of the former rebellion “had to make warning shots against the advancing of a convoy towards their positions”. Talks dismissed by the army saying that it is about one of its “supply vehicles”.
In Mali, a recent violation of the ceasefire in Kidal between signatory movements of the peace agreement is already straining the new timetable for the return of the administration to Kidal.
