Two ships coming from Koulikoro to Mopti were attacked by armed men 5 km from Kouakourou in central Mali. No human loss is to be deplored.
The attack took place on Thursday October 5 at midday. According to local sources contacted by Sahelien.com, the armed bandits had positioned themselves on both banks of the river and simultaneously opened fire as soon as the boats arrived in their radius.
The elements of the River Brigade who were escorting the ships quickly returned fire. Faced with the firepower of the soldiers, the terrorists quickly withdrew, said residents. No human loss is to be deplored.
This is the second attack in a week against ships in the Mopti region. On the night of September 28, five passengers of the Compagnie Malienne de Navigation were injured in an attack near Kouakourou.
