Breast cancer rates rise in Mali

“Breast cancer: What to know and how to recognize it” was the theme of a conference in Bamako on World Cancer Day this past Thursday, February 4. Considered a growing public health problem in Mali, 65 percent of cancer patients are women and 34 percent are men. In 2018, 1755 new cases of breast cancer were registered in Mali, and 920 deaths. According to Doctors Without Borders, more than 14,000 people were diagnosed with cancer in Mali in 2020.
