At least eight Chadian peacekeepers were killed and several others wounded in a terrorist attack in Aguelhock in the Kidal region.
It is a “complex attack” launched early this morning by attackers who arrived aboard many armed vehicles, said the UN Mission in a statement.
If the peacekeepers “neutralized a number of enemies” and “pursued the attackers in their detour”, there are many losses in their ranks. According to an interim report, eight UN soldiers were killed and several others wounded.
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Mali, Mahamat Saleh Annadif, strongly condemned this “despicable and criminal” attack. According to Mr. Annadif, this attack “requires a robust, immediate and concerted response from all forces to destroy the peril of terrorism in the Sahel”.
In April 2018, a mortar attack on the Aguelhock camp left two dead and ten wounded.
