Mali: “final” return of the governor of Kidal

In Mali, Sidi Mohamed Ag Icharach, governor of the Kidal region, has definitely settled in the region on Tuesday September 19, where he also has to tackle immediately the rehabilitation of basic social services.

The situation is becoming more and more subsiding in Kidal, northern Mali. Governor Sidi Mohamed Ag Icharach is back in the region after his first visit on August 23. His appointment was strongly contested by the armed groups of the CMA who still control this region of northern Mali.

On the spot yesterday, he launched the electrification works of the city where signatory armed groups of the peace agreement have, many times, violently clashed. He should also work to rehabilitate other basic social services such as health and education.

At the same time, the Platform and the CMA, the two groups fighting for the management of the city, are meeting in Bamako to find solutions to pacify the whole region. Previously, both sides had agreed to extend a 30-day truce the day after the Security Council voted a sanctions regime for Mali.
