A violent fire broke out early Monday, December 11, at the Rose Market located in the big market of the Malian capital. For now, the causes are not known but the material damage is important.
Several stores and kiosks were ravaged by a fire that occurred around 3 am, according to traders met on the spot.
The firefighters helped by volunteers tried to contain the fire during our visit. “We had a few injuries during the intervention. There were no casualties but the material damage is enormous. A lot of shops caught fire and people practically lost everything they had in it”, said a fire officer.
The store managers deplore a big loss. This is the case of Issa, a 28-year-old trader who could not save his goods. “I sell menswear. Everything went up in smoke”, he said.
In 2014, the Rose market of Bamako was ravaged by an impressive fire.
