Mali : in Bamako, the artistic and cultural biennale resumes

Bamako will host the special edition of the artistic and cultural biennale organized by the Malian Ministry of Culture, accompanied by the Communication agencies of Mali employers’ group.

The Malian capital, Bamako, is preparing to host the special edition of the artistic and cultural biennale, from December 24 to 31. Many troops will be traveling from the 10 regions of Mali, which will be competing in play, singing solo, choir, orchestra, instrumental ensemble and traditional dance.

«The Artistic and Cultural Biennale is a meeting place and intercommunity exchange, created in the early hours of independence, to promote the mixing and interpenetration of populations and to contribute to the emergence of a culture of peace and citizenship», Andogoly Guindo, Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture, told the press on December 19. A popular event bringing together artistic groups, artists and creators from communes, circles and regions, the resumption of the artistic biennale, scheduled for December 2016, was officially postponed by the Ministry of Culture to March 2017. «( ..) The solicitations of the disabled, Malians abroad and the consideration of the two new regions, all this led the government to decide to postpone the event to take into account these new facts», Ramatoulaye Diallo, Minister of Culture, explained then.

Then, followed a new postponement to December 2017. This year’s edition is therefore described as special, «in the social, historical and political context», according to Samba Niaré, member of the organizing committee. «We have to deal with a dual participation: the generation of 2010 and the two new regions: Taoudéni and Ménaka», Niaré added during the press conference. Six years after its interruption, because of the crisis that has hit the country, the artistic biennale is back. The cost of the event is estimated at 345 million francs CFA.
