Mali – Kidal : patrols to fight against insecurity in the city

In Kidal, robberies and burglaries have increased in recent times in the city. Non-governmental organizations and civilians, especially traders, are the most affected. To cope with the situation, the Security Coordination of the city’s movements decided to intensify the patrols.

“Our field work is the regulation of traffic, the control of motorcycle and car papers, as well as the systematic control of all that is suspicious in city traffic,” said Habib Ag Babahmad, Deputy Coordinator of the Kidal Security Commission. According to him, its members have made arrests and returned stolen objects to their owners.

The inhabitants that we met, wished that the patrols are done in a perennial way. For Mossa Ag, a trader in Kidal, “since the patrol began l, the thieves have calmed down.

NGOs contacted by the Sahelien.com correspondent on the spot did not wish to express themselves. Since mid-October, the International Committee of the Red Cross has “suspended some of its assistance to the people, following an intrusion of armed men in one of its residences in Kidal.”
