Mali : Several civilians killed in a new attack in Menaka

This attack comes a little over a month after the one that killed 47 people about sixty kilometers from the city of Menaka.

The violence takes place on Tuesday, January 15th, in the village of Inekar-West and on the Tagaterte site, according to the Sahelien.com correspondent. In a statement, the Azawad Salvation Movement (MSA) reports that “the attackers carried out the summary execution of some 20 civilians, including elderly people, in addition to the few members of the MSA security post who died in combat”.

The MSA “reiterates its appeal to the Government of Mali and all natural and legal persons concerned and particularly to the signatory movements to do everything possible to stem this wave of mass crimes”, the statement said.

During a press conference yesterday in Bamako, the National Council of Civil Society expressed outrage at the “dangerous deterioration” of the security situation in Mali. It plans a meeting on January 19, the eve of the armed forces celebration, to ask the government to “end the cycle of violence” in the center and north of the country.
