Mali: Soumeylou Boubeye Maïga appointed Prime Minister

Soumeylou Boubeye Maïga, 63 years old, was secretary-general of the presidency of Mali. This Saturday, December 30, he is appointed Prime Minister by the President of the Republic and charged with forming a new government.

Considered by many as a tough man, this former journalist who has held several ministerial portfolios, is deemed close to President Keïta. President of the ASMA-FC party, a member of the Presidential Majority Convention (CMP), he is one of the faithfuls to IBK. Renowned for his good knowledge of security, military issues, Soumeylou Boubeye Maïga, also from Gao, was described for several months as having the good profile to become Prime Minister.

His appointment comes hours after the resignation of Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga. Yesterday, December 29, the latter submitted his resignation and that of his government, without any official explanation.
