Mali: the judgment of Aliou Mahamane Touré dismissed to August 18

The Malian Human Rights Association and the Public Prosecutor’s Office asked and obtained, Wednesday, August 9, the dismissal of the judgment of Aliou Mahamane Toure, former Islamic judge of the movement for unity and jihad in West Africa (Mujao).

“This is to bring in the civil parties who need to be heard to explain to the Malian people their suffering”, said Moctar Mariko, civil party lawyer and president of the AMDH.

The defense objected to this “scandalous” request claiming that the public prosecutor’s office and the civil party cannot give any guarantee to bring the victims to court. “We do not understand the fury against our client. He joined the Mujao after his sister was raped by elements of the MNLA. He had no other arms to cling to except the Mujao. These prime contractors are here and have never been worried”, added the defense, who also requested a ”provisional release or referral to the next session”. After deliberation, the Court dismissed the case to 18 August.
