The camp of the UN Mission in Kidal was targeted yesterday Thursday by shelling. According to a statement released this morning, “a dozen shells of different calibers targeted the camp” causing five light wounded among the staff of the Minusma.
“Shortly afterwards, a position of the Force was attacked outside the camp. Three peacekeepers were killed and three wounded”, the statement said.
The attack comes shortly after Minusma announced the “strengthening of its patrols in the Kidal region in response to the resurgence of violence”.
This is the second attack in less than three weeks in the same region. On May 23, two peacekeepers were killed and another wounded in an ambush in Aguelhok.
