Appearing before court for the first time after 15 days of detention, Nigerian opposition leader Ali Amadou Djibo known as “Max” defended himself by rejecting all the allegations made against him during his hearing with the judicial police of Niamey.
He was accused of having called in a speech in local language, the opposition militants to go out massively to chase President Mahamadou Issoufou out of power.
What the opponent and his whole council denied as a whole. “My remarks have been distorted and taken out of context by the judicial police”, he said at the bar before adding that he does not recall instructing the militants to overthrow President Issoufou.
However, the prosecution requested six months’ imprisonment. The deliberations have been scheduled for 6 June.
