Mali : a soldier killed in an attack in the Segou region

A checkpoint of the Malian army was the target of an early terrorist attack on Thursday, December 21 in Niono, in the Segou region.

The attack, which occurred around 1:30 am, left one dead in the ranks of the Malian Armed Forces. A vehicle was also taken away by the attackers. Pursuits have been initiated against the perpetrators of the attack, according to the army.

The Niono locality, located more than 300 km north of the Malian capital, has been living for several months under terrorist threat. On November 16, the president of the Niono court was abducted from his home by armed men. Judge Soungalo Koné appeared in early December, in a video where he calls on the government to release the terrorists detained in Malian prisons and to apply sharia, demand of the terrorists.

A year ago, nearly 100 detainees escaped from the Niono Prison after an armed attack.
